About Africa Day.org

Africa Day.org was created to celebrate Africa’s successful hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a history-making event for the continent. Our event will shine the spotlight on the contribution that Africa has made to the world, highlight achievements made by notable Africans, and discuss key issues facing our continent.

This year, Africa Day.org is in proud partnership with the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD). Proceeds from the Gala Dinner will directly impact 1GOAL, our partner charity for the year.

About Africa Day

Africa Day is an annual commemoration of the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on 25th May 1963. On this date leaders of 30 of the 32 independent African states signed the OAU founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 2002, the OAU became the African Union, which now comprises 53 African nations.

On Africa Day, Africans all around the world celebrate African unity. It is an opportunity to celebrate African diversity and success, and to highlight the cultural and economic potential that exists on the African continent. Africa Day celebrations acknowledge the progress that Africans have made while reflecting upon the common challenges we face in a global environment.
